When I was 16 something was said in a school assembly that affected me deeply.
Our teacher asked:
“How often do you think something positive about someone but you don’t tell them?”
Imagine what the world would be like if you make it a practice to tell them.
My teacher’s words stayed with me, and I try to apply his lesson whenever I can. For instance, a while ago, I told a woman on the Tube that I thought she looked very beautiful.
Last week I wrote about gratitude and how it brings more positivity into our lives. Paying people genuine compliments is similar. Everyone likes to be appreciated, and when we hold positivity through appreciation of another, it’s hard to hold on to negativity.
Paying someone a compliment opens you up to all the good that surrounds you. It makes you more connected to yourself and to others.
I gently encourage you to pay someone a genuine compliment today. See how it makes you feel. Does it add a pocket of warmth and connection to your day?
If you decide to pay a compliment today, I’d love for you to share it with us over in my health and wellbeing Facebook group. It would be a wonderful thing if we could collectively create a wave of appreciation!
